It’s here!!!

It’s that time ladies and gents…shell has been motivated!!!! the motivation of shell!!! rock.

w/o farther adieu, may i present my…

Research Proposal

Background: The interest in Artificial Intelligence increased in the 1950’s with Alan Turing’s Theories involving the machine that could think and learn like man. Many people began the god-like attempt at creating a machine in our own image. The hype lasted well into the seventies, early eighties when it became evident that said the successful development of such machines was not in the near future if not possible at all. Companies started to pull their funding from AI research and we found ourselves in the AI winter. Only the labs backed by schools were able to continue in the research (MIT, CMU, Stanford, ect.).

The 1990’s saw a new rise in Artificial Intelligence, but not in the classical sense of years before. In the spirit of McLahuan’s Man, the Prosthetic God, Artificial Intelligence was now being incorporated into software. Common sense intelligence such as those found in scheduling software, search engines such as Google and OCR software used to recognize letters in scanned documents and turn them into word processing documents were just a few examples of where AI is found in our everyday lives.

Purpose: To develop an Artificial Intelligence learning algorithm that uses the internet as its “school.” By searching the internet and developing bonds based on the predominance of words within a certain page or pages, the bot will then be able to generate responses based on these bonds as well as hard coded natural language rules to formulate such things as sentence structure, grammatical validity and eventually personality. The result will be a self-taught Artificial Intelligence capable of holding conversations using entirely self generated material.

Areas my research will cover will include search engine algorithms, linguistic studies, believable agent theories, and psychology and personality theories.

Research:

Carnegie Mellon’s past OZ Project and the current Entertainment Technology Center; The Artificial Intelligence Lab at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology;

AI Research’s ALAN/HAL;

Parsing software such as ALICE and Annabot;

Alan Turing’s Theories,

…and my own past research involving Lilith.
