Rebuilding a Kitchen Floor

Remember this beauty? Sexy beast. Well, what was under that wasn’t any better. This room use to be divided into two: a ground floor bathroom use to be in the area that you see suspended over the basement, and the original scullery use to be in the area made up by solid ground. Uncovering Victorian Era Tiles

The tiles started to come down in the kitchen today. Along with the upper cabinets. Hubs is in shock. Watch him emote. Guess what we found? A GIANT HOLE! We knew that was there, how could you not…but look up there a bit, just peaking out under the awesome mid/late century beauties. See that red peaking out? That’s original lime wash. Before: The Kitchen

The kitchen is on the tinier side, only 10’4 x 9’8″.  At one point, according to Aunt Sheila who grew up here with my husband’s dad and uncle, this room use to be two. The bathroom was on the left and the scullery was on the right. She’ll need the tiles knocked down, a new floor (stained plywood…kind of wabi sabi meets scandi…in the ghetto) and new cabinetry.
